The skin is the largest organ in the body. It covers a total area of  20 square feet. Impressive right? However, that's not all, it is so vital in protecting us from microbes and harsh elements. It even regulates our body temperature and permits the sensation of touch. That's why you'll learn why you should consider using vitamin E.

What is vitamin E?

Derived from food such as cereal, juice, and margarine, abalone, salmon, and other seafood, broccoli, spinach, and other green vegetables. Nuts and seeds also consist of vitamin E. Vitamin E is simply soluble fat with anti- inflammatory properties. It helps greatly in supporting your immune system, cell function and your skin. Keep reading to find out why you should be considering it for your skin.

According to dermatologists, Vitamin E could be that antidote that your skin disorder needs so much. It is also vital in skin restoration especially after being damaged by the sun in what many refer to as "sun burn". How is all this possible you ask?

The antioxidant properties in vitamin E are so important that skin therapists refer to it as the 'skin smoother'. This property is what prevents oxidative damage to cells by helping remove free radicals.

Free radicals or "bad guys" are always on a destructive mission. They act by snatching an electron from anything they come across. From DNA, to skin proteins, to connective tissues and even cell membrane. The more you satisfy the free radicals and their thirst to be stable, the better your skin will look and be protected. That's where Vitamin E jumps into action.

It fights off free radicals on the skin. These free radicals come as a result of stresses on the skin like exposure to harmful sun rates and air pollution. As it fights these free radicals, vitamin E ends up protecting the skin from damage.

In what many call a "workhorse" of vitamins, vitamin E has moisturizing and healing properties as well. Ideally, it functions as a barrier strengthening your skin. It's anti-inflammatory properties help in  soothing and calming the skin. It's also good for hydrating skin, and serves as a moderately effective natural barrier to the sun.

The benefits of vitamin E to your skin are obvious, however not everyone is supposed to use it. People with very sensitive and oily skins are advised to stay away. It can also act as an allergen to some, causing irritation, itching, or even a rash when it touches the skin.
