Why every woman needs to have suncsreen in her handbag and what to consider when buying one

Skin Care

Sunscreen depends on a skin type. Basically, what one should pay attention to when purchasing sunscreen is the ingredients used like Zinc Oxide, Titanium dioxide and mexoryl. These are powerful Ingredients which protect you from UVA and UVB.

The reason why you must wear a sunscreen is because the sun can damage your skin with early wrinkles, fine lines and hyperpigmentation. Sunscreen will protect your skin from UV rays known as UVA and UVB which triggers harmful changes in your skin.

SPF- Sun protection factor covers UVB rays only which are related to sunburn and skincare.

When you check on SPF,it only talks about covering UVB and NOT UVA.

UVA, is also related to an increased risk of cancer but unlike UVB, it doesn't cause sunburn but it really exposes you to hyperpigmentation and early aging.  UVA, does penetrate through the window glasses.

Please I urge all of you to make sure you wear your sunscreen every day even if you are inside a car. Especially,if you are dark in complexion...we all know our sun comes out very early in the morning and that's a worry to every dark skin person because if you step out of your house without your sunscreen then you are at a higher risk of getting dark patches on your face and a serious turn on your body because the sun penetrates deeper into the skin and has more influence in the collagen but worry not Sonnie got you.

The only way to know if you have the best sunscreen that covers UVA and UVB is the word "BROAD SPECTRUM" If your sunscreen doesn't read that, technically, it means it doesn't offer full coverage from UVA which is very important.

Other best ingredients are TITANIUM DIOXIDE ,AVEBONZONE,MEXORYL AND OCTINOXATE just to name a few. If your sunscreen has the above ingredients, then you are good to go.

An SPF 15 is not effective as SPF 30 and vise versa. An SPF 30/50 the only difference I know of is 1% filtering improvement. An SPF 30 is more affordable and it does the job well as long as you reapply after every 2hours especially if you are exposed to the sun.

For the past few weeks in Nairobi we have been walking under an oven. The sun outside is extremely hot .The sun Ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibres in the skin called ELASTIN. When these fibres breakdown, the skin begins to stretch and sag .

In as much as we need vitamin D from the sun, we are all aware too much of something is dangerous. So don't expose yourself to the sun if you are not wearing your sunscreen.

This is what happens,UVA penetrates deeper into the dermis which is the skin’s thickest layer. In this layer is where most of the skin functions take place. So if you expose your skin without a broad spectrum you are at a higher risk of premature aging, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

Let me break it down further. UVA, penetrates to the skin and UVB damages the top layer. And who wants that??? Wear your sunscreen darling.

My advise; Get SPF 30 reapply after every 2hrs it should be water resistant broad spectrum. #Stayhealthy.
