The Chief of Defence Forces Gen Robert Kibochi has praised the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta for creating an enabling environment in the military.
Gen Kiboichi was speaking today at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Langata, Nairobi, during the grand farewell ceremony for the president by the military.
President Uhuru hands over to president-elect William Ruto on Tuesday upon which Ruto will be the new Commander-in-Chief of Kenya's armed forces.
Gen. Kibochi said President Uhuru's regime had "played a key role in propelling and boosting [military] capabilities while sharpening its arrowhead to effectively serve the nation."
He added that under Uhuru's administration, a wide range of welfare initiatives catering to DF personnel, their families and military veterans were established and aligned to meet the emerging challenges facing the soldiery.
The General cited the construction and equipping of regional hospitals in Nairobi, Isiolo, Nakuru and Eldoret.
"The facilities are critical in offering supportive health services," he said.
Touching on service delivery by the military in conjunction with the National Government, Gen. Kibochi said President Uhuru involved the KDF in the implementation of key projects such as the revival of the Kenya Meat Commission which had been performing dismally.
"Since the takeover of KMC's efficiency in product delivery and profit-making has been rejuvenated to a great extent," he said.
He said KDF engineers also rehabilitated the stalled Nairobi-Nanyuki and Nairobi -Kisumu meter gauge railway lines.
The engineers have also played a key role in the construction of Uhuru Gardens Museum which not only showcases and preserve the country's heritage but also display the evolution of KDF through the decades.
"In the spirit of enhancing comprehensive security, the Commander-in-Chief has, in the last 10 years supported the expansion and transformation of KDF in order to achieve mission readiness.
"The KDF is today a force that is responsive and useful to the national socio-economic agenda," Gen. Kibochi said.
He said it is for this reason that today, the Military holds this grand farewell ceremony for the president to show gratitude and utmost respect.
The event was not attended by president-elect William Ruto because he has not been handed the power. Ruto will be given special honour Tuesday next week during the swearing-in ceremony at Kasarani stadium, Nairobi.
