Why your man can't keep up with your great expectations

Times have changed and so have relationship expectations. Men have been thrown off balance and are struggling to adjust to the new social terrain of intersexual dynamics and gender power distribution.

They do not know whether to embrace the changes and move on or to spend their energy trying to peg us back to old ways for the sake of routine. The height of confusion is that there is a clear conflict between the nature of a man and the evolution levels of the woman of today.

The mention of nature in relation to human behaviours is something that has caused discomfort throughout the journey of redefining gender roles and behaviour.

We feel nature confers men a lot of rogue power over us including the right to philander considered a biological disposition, something we have been fighting to either nip or match.

Arguably, a man is supposed to be the natural head of a family setup based on his natural masculine design. This, among other privileges, has come under intense scrutiny with opportunities in terms of provisioning being redefined as time goes by.

While our DNA code defines that we ought to be submissive, there are several emerging circumstances involuntarily thrusting us in the lead and our men forced to follow by the strange wind of what I would call new nature.

The adaptation to some of these emerging trends is poking obvious holes in the fundamental role of our men as was believed to be natural in the old order.

Of course, we are having a field day stepping into our new role of calling shots and making decisions. We are now able to go for workshops and stay away from the children and enjoy nyama choma in the affluent ambiance of hotels in the wild.

While at it, we now bring money home and sit at the table of decision-making as far as running family affairs is concerned. They now begrudgingly stay back home and wipe the mucus off their children's noses as they drop them to school and pick them up on time.
