Long-lasting relationships are rare in one of the biggest entertainment regions of the world, Hollywood.
Perhaps it is the pressure of being celebrities, or the weight of the spotlight- but celebrity couples often go from loved up to split up and acting like strangers in no time.
But, in the midst of the failing relationships and heart-breaking divorces, some Hollywood couples have proven to be enduring, and shine a ray of hope to celeb unions.
We explore some celebrity couples that have stood the test of time.
Denzel and Pauletta Washington
Denzel Washington, a beloved American actor, shines in films like Malcom X (1992), Fences (2016) and Inside Man(2006) among many others.
While many leading men in Hollywood go through multiple splits and divorces along the way, the actor has remained married since 1983, breaking the boundaries of short-lived celebrity unions.
"The couple wed in 1983 after meeting on the set of the television film, Wilma. The pair has four children including BlacKkKlansman star, John David Washington, daughter Katia and twins Olivia and Malcolm," Essence Magazine reports.
The couple have opened up about their blissful relationship in multiple interviews in the past, noting that there is no one key to a successful union, but understanding and valuing each other goes a long way.
Oprah Daily reports on the 40 year marriage: "Asked for his key to a happy marriage, Denzel recently joked: "I do what I'm told. I keep my mouth shut!" But the actor later got more contemplative about what had really held he and Pauletta together over the years, and gave his wife a huge amount of the credit. "What pops into my head: security, food, a beautiful home," he said."
Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham
The celebrated media mogul Oprah Winfrey has been in a relationship with her long-time love, author and businessman Stedman Graham, since 1986.
Elle Magazine reports that the power couple have intentionally kept their 30-year-plus romance lowkey, after meeting at a charity event that year.
"We left together, and I asked if he wanted to get a beer. (Yes, I drank a lot of beer then and wore cowboy boots every day.)," Winfrey wrote. "He said he didn't drink. (Still doesn't-not one sip of nothin' alcoholic since I've known him). I thought he was nice enough, but I wasn't that impressed. He was polite, yes, and kind. The sort of guy who sits with an ailing friend. Tall and handsome, for sure. But actually too handsome, I thought, to be interested in me."
Although the pair got engaged in 1992, they have never tied the knot nor had children together.
"Both he and I now say, 'If we had married, we would not be together,'" she said. "No question about it - we would not stay married, because of what that would have meant to him, and I would have had my own ideas about it," the media boss told People Magazine.
Jay Z and Beyonce
It has been more than 20 years for this A-list couple, which, as Cosmopolitan Magazine reports, is an absolute eternity in the world of celebrity relationships.
Even though the pair have had rough patches, opening up about how infidelity has rocked their union in the past, predictions of a divorce by naysayers have never come to pass.
"Not much is known about their first meeting and early relationship, however, Beyonce once revealed that the pair first met when she was just 18. The couple sat next to each other on a plane while both attending the 2000 MTV Spring Break festival and Jay-Z later rapped about the moment in his 2018 song 'Everything Is Love,'" Brides.com reports.
Rapper Jay Z spoke about how he fought to save his marriage in a 2018 interview, revealing that the couple made a choice to "break the cycle and give their children a different outcome."
"That's my soulmate. It's the person I love. And you can be in love with someone, you can love someone, and if you haven't experienced love and you don't understand it and you don't have the tools to move forward, you're going to have complications, period," he told CNN.
David and Victoria Beckham
Theirs has been described as a dreamy love story, with the soccer star and his fashion mogul wife having been married since 1999.
Victoria has reportedly said that "Love at first sight does exist," as the two continue to reiterate that hard work and commitment keeps their relationship together.
"Though the couple grew up within 15 minutes of each other in London, they didn't actually meet until years later, when Victoria was Posh Spice of the Spice Girls and David was playing with Manchester United," People Magazine reports, noting that the pair met in 1997.
Opening up about the key to their successful marriage in a 2022 interview, Victoria gushed about the role her husband plays in making it work.
"David is an incredible dad, and husband, and he's very supportive of my work. We are really good partners," she said.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett
The celebrated American actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett have had some of their struggles play out in the limelight.
Like Jada's infamous 'entanglement' with the RnB singer August Alsina and rumours of an open marriage that have surrounded them for years.
But one thing is certain, this pair is joint at the hip, and they continue to support each other no matter what their relationship goes through.
The couple walked down the aisle in 1997 and have continued to go strong since.
"Though the two have never shied away from discussing the ups and downs of their relationship, their 24-year marriage is a testament to how they've managed to weather every storm-including a separation-despite being in the public eye," Oprah Daily reports on a timeline of the famous couple's relationship.
Jada also spoke about reports of an open relationship in 2013, taking to Facebook to call out opinionated onlookers.
"Will and I both can do whatever we want, because we trust each other to do so. This does not mean we have an open relationship...this means we have a grown one," the actress wrote.
