Nairobi proved a challenge for Badi, will Sakaja fare better?

Living

"I have been running Nairobi County for the last two years. It has been a challenging job especially if you are a military man and you are given a quasi-political position. It was a hot seat since I was running the capital city of Kenya," these were the words of Lt-Gen Mohammed Badi during his last days in charge of Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

This was 13 days before he finally relinquished the health, transport, public works, planning and development services to the new administration of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja. Badi was plucked from the military by President Uhuru Kenyatta to streamline a chaotic city.

After being appointed NMS Director General, Lt-Gen Badi soon realised the task of transforming Nairobi was not a walk in the park. Although he is credited for bringing a facelift to the city, his critics think his tour of duty was a waste of time and that it was high time the functions were reverted back to the county government.
