After keeping her relationship under wraps, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika married businessman Sam Mburu. The politician had been seeing Mburu since 2013 when the businessman was on campaign trail; The Nairobian learnt that the two cemented their love despite facing some hurdles. In 2016 Beatrice Wanjiku, Sam Mburu's first wife, moved to court challenging Mburu's plea for custody of their two children. Mburu through his lawyers claimed that he was only living with her and was not a man of means. The rest as they say is history. Sam has never left the side of the the newly elected governor.
Kihika is not the only politician to get hitched in office. On July 13 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru tied the knot with Lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo in a colourful traditional wedding ceremony in Kirinyaga County. This was a high profile wedding attended by then President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga among prominent leaders. Waiguru was previously married in the 1990s but the relationship hit a snag, ending in divorce.
Elsewhere, Samburu West Member of Parliament Naisula Lesuuda said I do to her fiancee Robert Kiplagat at Lesirai in Samburu County. Then there was former Starehe Member of Parliament Margaret wanjiru who called off her engagement to South African Rev Samuel Matjeke in 2007, after her estranged husband James Kamangu Ndimu moved to court to block their wedding.
