An apple a day keeps the doctor away but did you know a glass of red wine a day can equally do the same?

Red wine also helps in lowering bad cholesterol in your system. Other than these health benefits of red wine and more, here are five surprising beauty benefits of red wine you didn't know:

Improves acne-prone skin

Other than enjoying your glass of red wine, which will improve your mood you can also use red wine as a moisturizer. Simply take a cotton bud, soak it in red wine until it drenches and apply it all over your face and wait 10 to 20 minutes.

This will give the wine enough time to seep through your pores. Rinse your face and notice the difference. Red wine contains anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, that will help fight acne, clear the pores and prevent future breakouts.

Best face masks

Red wine can be used to achieve more natural and glowing skin. Your face will more often than not contain dead skin and cells that will constantly make it look dry and dull.

When it's time to scrub, red wine can do the trick. Simply mix your red wine, with some plain yoghurt and honey ensure to stir your mixture so they mix properly.

Apply the mixture to your face and let it dry for 15 to 20 minutes. To wash it out using a dump cloth slowly rub it off first before rinsing your face with water. Your face will be dry and crusty from the mixture, avoid scrubbing your face with your fingers because you are likely to scathe it.

Helps your beauty sleep

Not only will red wine help calm your nerves and keep you relaxed, but you are also most likely to have a good night's rest. Red wine contains a hormone called Melatonin that helps in regulating sleep and waking up cycles.

Melatonin's production is influenced by the detection of light and dark by the retina of the eye hence its role in the circle. One of the highest concentrations of the hormone is found in red grapes that are used to make red wine.

First, wash and condition your hair before using the red wine on it. After it is clean and dumped, pour red wine over it and ensure the juices reach your hair's full length and scalp then give it 10 minutes to rest and seep in before washing it off. The red wine will help rejuvenate damaged hair and prevent hair breakage not to mention the shine it will give your hair.

Prevents wrinkles and fine lines
