There was a spectacle in a county assembly office in western Kenya recently, when a grandmother unsuccessfully attempted to force an officer to acknowledge his illegitimate child.
The staffer put the granny’s grandchild in the family way and had been denying responsibility.
The angry granny stormed the offices early in the morning to demand audience. She threatened to disturb the peace if they were not going to listen to her.
“If you are not going to listen and help me solve this problem caused by one of your own, I’m afraid I will dump this kid here so that you can take care of him by yourselves,” she declared.
The officers were forced to attend to the granny, who expressed her displeasure with a staffer at the county assembly office. The said the man had allegedly impregnated her grandchild and failed to man up. She added that the teenage mother was not able to provide the baby’s basic needs.
The granny said she was not happy, having taken care of the child for over six months without the father stepping forward to offer a helping hand.
“We have not even performed basic rituals to the child because of his father’s laxity. The man sow wild oats and, of course, had fan while at it, but he is not ready to take responsibility. If he is not taking this child today, I am willing to report him to his senior so that he can accept his burden,” the granny thundered.
The shy teenage mother, hiding behind her grandmother, was quickly called to step forward and identify who the father of her kid was.
She said they had met on several occasions with the man and that he was the one who sired the child. The scandalised man attempted to sink in his chair but all in vain. The young mother had spotted him and pinpointed him.
Attempts by the man to deny the claims were futile as he was left with egg in the face when the teenage mother scandalised him further. She reminded him of the day they spent a chilly afternoon in a maize plantation and almost got rained on.
She went on to lay bare intimate details, including how the cradle snatcher kept praising her breasts, calling them “shy”. The entire office broke into a rapturous laughter.
“Have you forgotten how it nearly rained on us when we were in that maize plantation by the riverside? After that, we had several encounters together before I informed you I was pregnant and you began ignoring me,” the teenage mother narrated.
The other officers checked and confirmed that the child’s forehead was an exact replica of their colleague and urged him to own up. They pleaded with him to help the granny and the child’s mother in taking care of the child.
Unfortunately, the man remained adamant and his bosses pleaded with the granny to cool down and solve the matter amicably. By the time of going to press, it was still not clear whether the man acknowledged the child.
