Wilson Muchichu : A simple ride that got me a wife

Bridal

First date

We met through a common friend (Our Cake Matron, Mrs Jane Mithamo) in August 2012. The first time we met, I gave her a lift from Westlands to Kinoo but the first actual date was at the Mug Restaurant, Nairobi. The rest is history.

The proposal

He proposed eight months after our first meeting. I remember the day vividly. He had come home for supper and as we sat to have dinner, he flashed out the gold ring, looked me into the eye and said he had made up his mind I was the right woman for him. I got a little bit confused and speechless but it will always be the best moment ever in my life.

The drama

Oh, there was enough of it. We encountered a lot of disappointment during the planning process from friends we really counted on.

The guy we had contracted as the Master of Ceremonies never showed up and instead sent a stranger.

My in-laws were very supportive all through the planning period till the wedding day. Special appreciation to the groom’s aunt Philomena Kabogo, who volunteered to do the bride’s make-up. With the suppliers there, was no major drama as we worked with people well known to us.

In hindsight

In the end, things went as planned. There was nothing we would have done differently.

My advice to couples trying to wed is to put God first in all their plans, start preparations early and make sure they are well prepared financially.

Memorable moments

The church service was a moment to remember, thanks to Rev Peter Kariuki’s electrifying sermon, which kept guests glued to their seats.

Our son Ian, marching to the altar to bring the rings was an awesome moment that will always be in our minds.

We also decided to make our clothes locally including the wedding gown. We chose purple because it’s a colour of nobility. We went to Mombasa and later to Zanzibar for our honeymoon.
