I think everyone experiences constipation at least once in their lives. It’s actually a dreadful and embarrassing experience when you realize you’re experiencing trouble with your bowel movements.

When you’re constipated, it means that your stool is being restricted because there’s no enough water to lubricate.

It happens when you haven’t been taking enough water, fiber and sometimes it’s because of underlying conditions and medication.

Such situations always have a way of ruining your day especially when you have somewhere important to go or when you don’t have access to off the counter mediation right away. But, home remedies can give you the relief you need.

The first step is prevention. Having a balanced diet will do a lot to keep digestion problems away. Also, it’s important to have good stress management techniques because stress also triggers constipation.

Anyway, this is how treat constipation at home.

Castor oil

I can guarantee that you’ll be up running in no time with castor oil. It has properties that lubricate your walls and soften your stool so it can move freely.

Take one table spoon of organic castor oil before bed and by the next day, you’ll feel much better.

Hot peppermint tea

Peppermint herb is known to have many health benefits. It also comes in handy when you’re battling constipation.

What makes it good for relief is the menthol which relaxes the digestive walls to allow ease of flow. You can find some peppermint tea bags easily at the store.

Another way to use mint is to combine a few drops of the oil with some warm coconut oil and massage it directly on your abdomen. This will also stimulate bowel movement.

Hot water

As you incorporate all these methods, remember to start drinking enough water right away.

In this case hot water is better for relief as compared to warm or cold water. It’ll lubricate your digestive system and soften the stool.

Some people also prefer squeezing some lemon juice in the water. Citric acid can also provide relief.

Chia seeds

The texture of chia seeds when dipped in a liquid really lubricates the digestive system. They become soft and jelly-like which will promote bowel movement easily.

Aside from relieving the symptoms of constipation, chia seeds also have a lot of fiber in them. Drink some chia seeds in water or yoghurt.

Probiotic yoghurt

Yoghurt is generally good for your gut. The cultures found in yoghurt ease bloating, constipation and other common digestive problems.

Natural yoghurt will increase the number of healthy bacteria in your digestive system which will return your gut to normal functioning.

Coconut oil

One or two spoons of organic coconut oil will ease the constipation by lubricating your digestive tract. It will quickly release any trapped stool. It’s one of the best natural laxatives.

Prunes

You can either eat prunes or drink prune juice. In fact, many people swear by them as a solution to constipation because of its properties. The key component in prunes is sorbitol, a natural laxative that works for almost everyone.

Leafy greens

Vegetable should be part of your diet every other day. The most effective ones are the leafy greens because they contain a lot of magnesium which softens the stool.

Remember:

Whenever you’re constipated, don’t try and force it out. This is every dangerous and can lead to hemorrhoids. It’s better to find remedies for the problem because trying to force it out won’t work. To prevent constipation in future, eat foods and fruits rich in fiber such as mangoes, oats and beans. But you shouldn’t be too eager with fiber-rich foods because too much of them could also make you constipated. You should also exercise regularly and find healthy ways to ease your stress levels.  If you’re still having a severe case for recurrent constipation, consult your doctor immediately.
