My word: Watch who you go to for comfort

People find healing from the strangest things.

From jumping off a cliff and sailing through the sky when hang gliding (you can look it up) to taking a trip around the world.

The truth is, when you go through a traumatic experience, you need to find healing in one form or another.

But this need for healing can leave you vulnerable to all sorts of harm.

Like one woman who tells her story on Huffpost (www.huffpost.com). She faced a period of hopelessness and stagnation in her 20s and instead of seeking help from a professional counsellor or therapist, went looking for healing in all manner of spiritual disciplines. From reiki to meditation.

Eventually, she ended up in a cult whose leader was later arrested as a sexual predator (not towards her). When she learned about this in the news, she ended up feeling even more confused and lost.

“When people are sick, whether of body or soul, they will do anything to get better,” Jessie Asya Kanzer writes on the article published by Huffpost.

Reading her story has reminded me on one thing – that people should be careful about where they go to find healing.

Do whatever rocks your boat – whether you take yourself on a new physical, mental, emotional or spiritual journey – but don’t forget that healing should leave you stronger, happier and more fulfilled.
