Help! My campus boyfriend is a sexual and financial parasite

Lady Speak

A campus girl is actually facing serious financial and emotional embezzlement from the preying campus boys who view us as sex toys to quench not only their financial but sexual thirst.

A new development has now emerged in colleges based in rural areas like Masinde Muliro and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in Bondo where campus girls are blackmailed to provide for their male counterparts while also providing for themselves. Boys literally move into campus girl's hostels and camp there permanently. My friend Ruth and I are second-year Actuarial Science students at one of these newly opened rural universities. Both of us have campus boyfriends who are from well-up families. My boyfriend is an aspiring politician while my friend's boy-friend works as a part-time DJ earning rather good pay for a university student.

Whereas our campus boyfriends are able to cater for themselves, they have both chosen to turn our hostels into their homes and depend on us as if we were married couples. Although our parents are struggling to pay rent and upkeep for us, our boyfriends expect us to also cover their accommodation costs, feed them and clean their laundry. I have tried talking my boyfriend into contributing to our house expenses in vain. This is the case for my friend as well. While we have the option of evicting them from our respective hostels, we are afraid that we will lose them to rival girls from wealthier families. We are essentially blackmailed and live in fear of losing our campus husbands. It is so bad that we sometimes go without lunch so that we can have something to share with our 'baes' in the evening and morning.

I shudder to think what would happen if my parents were no longer able to cater for me and my boyfriend continued this way. I am even more concerned what their (parents) reaction would be if they learnt how we spend their money. Hashtag, are we possessed by the devil or is this a new culture of poor sugar-mummies developing in universities because we are not alone in this situation? More of our girlfriends are also suffering this exploitation in silence. Are today's boys only interested in being sponsored and exploiting our bodies for sex and not taking the responsibilities that come with dating? Please highlight this issues and give us options on how to deal with this situation that may destroy our academic lives.
