Simple steps to clean stained coffee mugs

Many people enjoy a cup of nicely brewed coffee or tea. Most of us always look forward to their next mug, but we all dread taking it from a cup with stains. Serving visitors tea in stained cups is a sign of a poor host.

In most cases, contrary to what many people assume, coffee and tea stains on cups are not as a result of poor hygiene

Even mugs that are thoroughly cleaned daily with a good dishwashing agent or soap can easily stain, and may need special cleaning once in a while to remove stains. These stains appear as brown rings around the top and bottom of your cups.

To prevent your mugs from staining easily, it is advised to try rinse them out with water immediately after use. Do a simple water rinse as you wait to clean them with soap and scrubber later.

Here are simple cleaning steps to follow to get your stained mugs sparky clean.

Use vinegar, not bleach

One easy way used to remove stains is by using bleach. However, there is no need to risk your health with a bleach because vinegar is your friend.

It is a multi-purpose ingredient that all homes should have. It is good for your glass windows, just as it is friendly to your kitchen sink drain and great in your salad.

Vinegar works wonders on your stained porcelain set. Fill each mug half-full with hot water and pour a generous amount of vinegar. Let it sit for about five to 10 minutes and pour the vinegary water. Take your dish scrub, give your cups a thorough cleaning and rinse them out. This leaves them spotlessly clean.

Use baking soda

Baking soda, just like vinegar, is another must-have multi-purpose product. Wet the inside of your mugs with cold water, sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda and leave it for a few minutes.

Gently scrub the cups with a sponge or cloth and rinse them. This wipes out the baking soda paste and as well as the brown marks. In a village setting, or in the absence of vinegar or baking soda, table salt, ash and hot water would come in handy.
