Where to place your TV

Interior décor

Ideal place for your TV
Place it in the built in cabinet

Regardless of the size or shape of your TV, its placement is important. If the spot where your TV has always been is not ideal, a slight shuffle of furniture will do.

However, finding an ideal place for your television can be a challenge.

Below are some tips on placing your TV without compromising your décor style:

• Check height; it should not be too high. No one wants to stare up at a TV like they are sitting in the front row of a movie theatre. Place your TV at eye level or slightly lower whether the TV is mounted on a wall or on a stand.

• How about the distance? One should sit in such a way that they are not too close or too far from the TV.

• Find the closest source of power to where you want the TV to be. Consider too, the position of your windows; you don't want too much glare on your screen.

• Choose a focal point; ideally the centre of the seating area. If your room has another focal point like a mantel or an adorable window, place your TV on the wall adjacent to the focal point so that it can still be viewed comfortably.

• If you have built-in shelving, place your TV inside it so that it dominates the living room. Surround it with books, decorative objects, and photographs.

• Add your TV to the eclectic mix of wall hangings, if you prefer it mounted on the wall. Mount framed pictures and shelves then add the TV so that its square shape is part of work to fit into the mix.

• For those with fireplaces, you may prefer your TV above the mantel. Do not worry about the heat from the fireplace as it does not affect the wall in any way. Note, however, that you should mount the TV on the wall and not have it stand directly on the mantle.

Ideal place for your TV
place it at the most under-utilised space in the layout-corner

• A corner cabinet is also ideal as most corners in homes are the most under-utilised spaces in the layout.

Tuck away your television in the cosy corner with either a wall-mounted unit or a free-standing unit.

You can then add books and other knick-knacks on the stand to add a personal and cosy touch.
