Radio presenter Sanaipei Tande talks about her career and biggest fear

Living

Sanaipei TandeAre you a feminist or a traditionalist?

I am selective. I decide how best to blend certain traditions with being a modern woman.

What do you love most about being a woman?

Being entrusted with the responsibility to care for children, or your man or loved ones, and exercising that duty to the point of making an impact in someone’s life. That is a beautiful feeling.

What is your best quality?

I am selfless and I love it. If it will put a smile on that person’s face, I will do it.

Your most annoying habit?

I am forgetful. If I don’t interact with you on a regular basis, I most definitely will forget you.

What are you up to these days?

Well, I got back to radio, now on Easy FM midmorning with Obinna from 10am to 2pm. I also work for a company called Nusu Nusu Productions as a voice artiste, translator and occasionally, producer, and I am also writing songs for some artistes. I am also planning to release lots of singles this year. And who knows, I might also get into farming.

When can we expect an album?

I have no plans whatsoever to release an album, but you can expect a lot of singles this year. I am working with many different producers and artistes.

You always look stunning… What is your secret?

I stick to what works for me from fashion to beauty products. As for the figure, let us just say I only work out when I notice things are not looking right.

What does being sexy mean to you?

I always say the sexiest asset is confidence. If you have that, the rest will fall into place.

What is your biggest addiction?

Meat! Meat! Meat! I would die without nyama!

What one thing don’t a lot of people know about you?

I am not moved by a lot of things that people do or have in life. By the time I go like ‘wow’, I am genuinely moved.

What is your biggest insecurity growing up?

It was more an insecurity of “not fitting in” but after some time, I realised I am a little different from most, so I should stop trying to be like!

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would that be?

Nothing! Oh gosh I love the woman I am today.

What motto do you live your life by?

I will do things when and how I want to do them.

Are you dating?

Nope! Not dating at the moment.

What do you think about the Nairobi dating scene and your pet peeve on dating?

I feel a lot of today’s relationships, not all; lack the passion to keep them alive because most people are getting into it for all the wrong reasons.

As for pet peeves, men who think flashing their money will get my attention! I find it shallow and illiterate.

What do you know now about love and men now that you wish someone had told you when you were younger?

I use the same logic when it comes to love and men all through, which is “to be the best I can be and give all that I can”. If it fails, it was not meant to be.

What is your biggest fear?

To be a nagging woman!

You had gone off the radar for a while. Reason?

I needed to take time to analyse my life, who I am, what I want to achieve and how to go about doing that.  I am a much happier and a more focused woman today.

What do you do for ‘me time’?

I have always been an introvert for as long as I can remember. I like to spend time alone a lot. Give me movies and food and I am sorted!
