Michelle Obama: First Lady makes 50 look so alluring

Living

Michelle ObamaAge is just but a number. No one epitomises this cliché like Michelle Obama. As she took the final stride into the graceful 50 on January 17, Western media was awash with adulation for her — from her fashion sense to her tacit beauty and the ageless aura she exudes.

Michelle has had an interstellar career as the first lady of the United States of America since her husband took office in 2009. The way she balances motherhood, marriage and her excursions as the First Lady has earned her accolades and placed her on a pedestal.

It is this high flying resume that makes her the focus of media outlets and a darling to many families within America and beyond. She has the proverbial Midas touch that simply draws awe on everything she is involved in. As she clocked 50, Michelle was nothing but elegant.

FOREVER YOUNG

She is a mother, a wife and a First Lady. This is the triad that shines on her star. So what’s her secret of remaining forever young?

According to Huffington Post, Michelle’s morning starts at 5am. Her first task of the day is to check and send out emails. Depending on whether Malia and Sasha are up, she either exercises or gets the girls ready for school.

As a couple strongly under the world’s microscope, Michelle and her husband have displayed maturity and charisma amidst damaging claims and innuendos.

Her husband has always been her biggest ‘supporter’ as she has been the wind beneath his wings.  Barack Obama only has sentimental words for his wife.

In his 2012 November re-election speech, he confessed:  “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the woman who agreed to marry me 20 years ago. Let me say this publicly: Michelle, I have never loved you more. I have never been prouder to watch the rest of America fall in love with you, too, as our nation’s first lady.”

And fall in love with her Americans did. In fact, while she is not the president, her popularity among American citizens soared past her husbands. Just last year, Forbes reported that 67 per cent of Americans viewed Michelle in a positive light compared to just 47 per cent for Obama.

Evidently last year, she appeared on many shows across America.

With a job that demands that she has to be forever ready for nights — or even weeks — away from her husband, Michelle has made sacrifices for the benefit of the presidency and the American public. Behind the magnanimity of president Obama (the charm, charisma, composure, astute and calm persona) is Michelle herself.

Shortly before her husband turned on the charm of a political orator, sweeping aside vainglorious competitors, on his way to nomination and eventual election, Michelle remained largely nondescript. But in her, Obama has always confessed, he found the support and zeal to make it through.

RESPECTED AND LOVED

As the first lady of United States of America since 2008, she has performed infinitesimally; putting forward interstellar performance that endeared her to America’s public and made her the sort of celebrity who is both respected and loved.

Today, she is involved in teaching America’s children the importance of physical exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through her ‘Let’s Move’ campaign. During her husband’s first term, she committed her time to assisting military families deal with challenges they face.

In an editorial review, Vanessa Bush, the editor for Essence magazine wrote: “You make 50 look fabulous, Mrs Obama, and we can only hope that as we each move into this decade, that we do it as gracefully and with as much poise and vivacity as you demonstrate daily. I believe that special glow that emanates from you is a reflection of the positivity you put out into the world.”

It’s no doubt that Michelle is revered. The Harvard Law School graduate and former corporate attorney — who has been chided as ‘Obama’s boss’ — actively uses her platform as first lady to change perception and improve the society.

As she clocked 50, Michelle took to twitter, posting a photo of her grinning exuberantly and showing off her new AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) card held by all Americans who are 50 and more. She said she was “excited to join Barack in the 50+ club.”

OBAMA’S BOSS

“Mrs Obama is helping change and reshape the way people look at ageing in this country. She’s showing folks how great 50 looks today,” AARP CEO Barry Rand told the press in a statement.

CNN records her saying that she is looking forward to another ecstatic half a century: “I have never felt more confident in myself, more clear on who I am as a woman. I have had amazing life experiences and hopefully another 50 years of experiences ahead of me.”

Asked by People magazine if she would consider ever going under the knife for better looks as she ages, she said: “Women should have the freedom to do whatever they need to do to feel good about themselves. Right now, I don’t imagine that I would go that route, but I’ve also learned to never say never.”

Her message to women as she celebrated her birthday is to be healthy. Michelle says she has never missed a health checkup, including mammograms and Pap smears. She’s also had a colonoscopy.

According to Daily Mail, Michelle feels more relaxed now that President Obama is inching close to finishing his term as Commander-in-chief. It has been five years since she became the first lady. Numerous times she has been a target in the unforgiving spotlight.

By her own account, she’s always felt that her life is ‘ever-evolving’.

“I’ve got to keep figuring out ways to have an impact, whether as a mother or as a professional or as a mentor to other kids,” she told the press, pointing out that her firstborn Malia, now 15, will be in college when she and President Obama leave the White House in January 2017.

“At that point in life, whoa, the sky is the limit,” Michelle said, hinting that she is probably yet to achieve the best of her potential.

And who would disagree!
