Nigerian afro-pop star Davido has shared a video reacting to his cameo on Coming 2 America, a 2021 American comedy film set in the royal country of Zamunda and starring Eddie Murphy that serves as a sequel to the original 1988 classic.
The Jowo singer, who stars alongside Arsenio Hall, Morgan Freeman, Wesley Snipes, Trevor Noah, John Legend and other top stars, said he took time off from his busy schedule to watch his performance in the film which premiered March 4.
In the video post, the 28-year-old expressed gratification in sharing the stage with who he termed as ‘legends that held the key to his childhood laughs.’ “It was an absolute pleasure sharing a set with a few legends that held the key to my childhood laughs,” he said.
Born David Adedeji Adeleke, Davido did not fail to recognise the efforts it took him to land a role in the film. “The sheer effort, work ethic and attention that goes into detail in creating art like this, is way more astounding than I could ever imagine,” he added.
The music star admitted that he had to watch the premier to believe that he was part of it. He expressed gratitude to Amazon Studios - a subsidiary of Amazon which specializes in developing television series and distributing and producing films – for the opportunity.
“Thank you Amazon Studios!! It was an absolute pleasure and I’d do it all over again! Coming 2 America out now! Everyone go watch it!! Tag your favourite boy when you see him!” he captioned the video on Instagram.
Davido also joins the list of Nigerian singers featured in the soundtrack of the movie, including Tekno and Tiwa Savage. The film’s release was accompanied by two albums; Music From the Motion Picture and Rhythms of Zamunda.
