Police shoot in the air to disperse Kidero, Khalwale supporters at Milimani

Nairobi, Kenya: Police at the Milimani Law Courts were Friday morning forced to shoot in the air and lob tear gas canisters to disperse clashing supporters of Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale.

The supporters had gathered at the court premises in solidarity with their leaders during the hearing of case in which Kidero has sued Khalwale for defamation.

The High Court Friday issued, for a second time, orders barring the Kakamega senator from making any comments that link Kidero to the Mumias Sugar scandal.

The court gave the parties 14 days to file their responses.

Kidero is aggrieved by Khalwale's remarks linking him to the financial problems that befell the sugar miller.

Khalwale allegedly made the offensive remarks while at Mumias Complex in Kakamega County during the presidential visit to the sugar company.

The Nairobi Governor further accuses Khalwale of slandering him again at a press conference and on his Twitter account.
