Kenya: Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero disbursed Sh24 million worth of scholarship to a total of 300 needy students. The occasion that took place at the County Assembly Hall on Thursday, was attended by the County Executive for education, Mr. Christopher Khaemba amongst other County Government officials.
‘One year ago, I sat with my Executive team and we were all in agreement that no child should stay at home or should be sent away from school because of lack of school fees. I immediately formed the Governors Executive Bursary whose sole responsibility would be to ensure deserving, needy, academically endowed and poor children would be sponsored to complete their education from form 1- form 4,’ said Governor Evans Kidero.
The scholarships were carefully awarded to children from various communities to ensure completion of their education without much hustle. The Nairobi Governor encouraged all student’ beneficiaries of the Governors’ Executive Bursary to work even harder for better results in their examinations.
The Governor’s Executive Bursary is a project started in 2014 in addition to the bursary scheme administered by the 85 MCA’s in Nairobi County.
The Governor emphasized that each of the students will be educated by this fund until they complete their secondary education and the beneficiaries will receive enough money from the kitty to meet all their tuition needs.
‘‘When you educate a child you empower a whole nation,’’ said Governor Evans Kidero.
