It is that time of the year again when we draft resolutions and commit them to the Almighty.

Oftentimes, people adhere to resolutions for the first three months then go back to their normal ways.

That is when the ‘new year new me’ ends. You might say ‘njaanuary’ has something to do with setting goals since we tend to think straight when we are broke don’t we?

Well, we will look at six simple ways to ensure you stick to your resolutions and they are pretty simple.

Keep them simple

Yes, you heard that right. Keep your resolutions simple. You need to make resolutions that are attainable.

That does not mean you should pen down something you can achieve in a day. Far from it. Write something that needs effort but is achievable.

Make them fun

One of the reasons why some people fail to stick to their resolutions is boredom. You cannot something you do not like for long. If you do, the results will not be as good.

Draft your resolutions with ‘fun’ in mind. This does not mean overindulging in things like drinking and partying.

If you intend to lose weight and you like a particular sport, you can merge the two. Losing weight while playing football.

Visualize your results

It is much easier to work with a goal in mind. Ensure you can visualize the end result. If you have channeled your energies towards something, having a clear picture of the end game can keep you going. Eyes on the prize.

Take breaks

Most of us give up early in the year due to fatigue. We often get worn out for trying too hard.

It is important to take breaks when attaining the set goals becomes a little too difficult or consumes much of our time. Breaks serve to refresh us and we can then work towards the goals with renewed vigor.

Set SMART objectives

Simply put, your resolutions should be Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Relevant and Time-bound.

Schedule Check-ins with Yourself

It is important to keep track of your progress as far as your resolutions are concerned. Once in a while, check whether you are on track and quantify what you have achieved.

Where necessary, adjust your schedule to ensure you stick to your resolutions.
