Hospital in sh300 million investment to improve healthcare

By Standard Reporter

The rising demand for high quality medical care has seen one of the country’s leading hospitals engage in an ambitious expansion plan that will see a special hospital for children set up.

The MP Shah Hospital in Westlands says a five-storey tower will be up before the end of the year to help address the needs of Kenyans. The Sh300 million project, which started early this year, will cater for children’s special needs ranging from the intensive care unit, counseling, physiotherapy and outpatient.

“We are strategically positioning the hospital as a principal healthcare provider in the region. These developments will make the hospital provide cutting-edge services to our clients,” said Bimal Kantaria, the managing director of Elgon Kenya Ltd.

Over the weekend, the hospital launched the new-look Kantaria Ward, which was refurbished at a cost of Sh40 million. The 30-bed ward renovation consists of private self-contained and duplex rooms in addition to general ward beds.

MP Shah has consistently been ranked among the best hospitals in Kenya and a preferential one for nursing care.

“The ward offers quality care to patients in both general and specialised medical conditions including general surgical and orthopedic conditions,” said Mr Kantaria, the managing director of Elgon Kenya Ltd, whose family has been financing the ward’s projects since 1958.
