Acne is an inflammatory skin disorders characterised by pimples, black heads and white heads. It is a common condition in teenagers and adults.

For those who suffer from acne it’s not merely a cosmetic problem, the consequences include emotional stress that can have an impact on self esteem.

In short acne is a message something may be wrong with your body chemistry, diet or skin cares routine.

Proper diet, nutritional supplements, medical treatment and finding the right kind of skin care products may be all that is needed to correct the problem.

Diet and Nutrition

It is important to eat a high fibre diet to keep the colon clean and rid the body of toxins.

An increase in your intake of raw foods including almonds, beans and cashew nuts will curb acne spread.

One is encouraged to eat a lot of fruits. Grapes, strawberries, pineapple are rich in alpha-hydroxyl acids that help to exfoliate the skin.

Foods rich in zinc; including fish, soybeans, whole grains, sunflower seeds, and small amount of raw nuts should be taken daily.

Your diet should contain vitamins ACE and essential fatty acids. Although Vitamin A is important in fighting acne, do not take too much. Vitamin E can help regulate Vitamin A levels

Drink eight glasses of quality water (fresh juice, water) per day and avoid alcohol, butter, caffeine, dairy products, fried foods, cocoa, hot and spicy foods, margarine, soft drinks and food containing brominated vegetables oils.

Avoid all forms of sugar as it impairs immune function. With acne too sugar much can cause "skin diabetes" and that means you will always have infections one after another.
