Things not to wear to the gym

Living

Most people who work out in gyms do not pay attention to what they wear since they think clothes worn don’t affect how one will exercise and how they will feel later. While it is important to look good even during workouts, it is important to know that some outfits do not belong in a gym and will probably stand between you and a healthy exercise. That being said, there is a list of wrong things that most people put on while going to the gym. These include:

Make-up

During exercise, your body releases toxins in form of sweat which is to be expelled from the body through skin pores. If you’re wearing a lot of make-up, these pores are blocked hence sweat (toxins) do not reach the surface of the skin. The trapped toxic sweat under the surface of the skin encourages build up which in the long run may turn into pimples, blackheads or acne. A thin layer of uncomplicated makeup is not as bad but should be cleaned out after the work-out.

Tight clothes

We all understand the thrill that comes with showing up in the gym with a tight work-out outfit. From sweatpants to sports bras, many people love to make an impression when they step into the gym. While the fashion statement in tight sports clothes is here to stay, too tight can pose a health hazard by altering blood circulation which is crucial during exercise. Tight clothes can also cause pain by putting pressure from intense training. Tight training pants have been a known cause for yeast infection in women.

Pure cotton wear

Most people vouch for cotton garments while visiting the gym. This is because cotton is among the most breathable fabrics. Cotton however, is known to absorb and soak in sweat in large amounts making it heavy and clammy. This poses the danger of clogged pores and the discomfort brought about by wearing wet clothes. Polyester blends are preferable as they do not soak in the sweat.

Baggy clothes

It is great to have clothes that allow free movement of limbs and the body during work-outs but wearing extra baggy clothes may beat the point. This is because you may end tripping on them and falling. They may also get caught in moving parts of the gym equipment which we all know is a hazard by itself. Baggy clothes are also known to slow you down during your work-out as they may require constant adjusting or holding up.

Jewelry

Earrings, rings, bracelets, neckpieces and many other jewelry are among things that most people take everywhere with them. The gym however is not a place for such things since one it poses a risk to the wearer and at the same time may damage the expensive piece. You do not want to cause damage on your engagement ring by grinding it against a machine’s moving pats. Jewelry, like loose clothes may also get caught in machine moving part causing tragic falls.

Regular bras

Women who work out often know the pain and discomfort that comes from the bouncing of boobs during exercises. This is one reason as to why sports bras were invented. These hold the breast closely and firmly to the chest making it possible for you to do whatever exercise you wish. Another risk that comes with not wearing the right bra to the gym is the post-workout shoulder pain that is caused by the excess moving of breasts during the exercise.
