Skin Care

For many of us, make-up has become an integral part of our beauty routine. Very few women are comfortable leaving the house bare-faced. However, it can be embarrassing when your makeup starts melting or disappearing, especially during the warmer months of the year.

Here are some tips on how you can keep your foundation looking perfect all day.

1. Great makeup begins with great skin

Take care of your skin and body by maintaining a healthy diet, keeping well hydrated, getting enough sleep, limiting sun exposure, and exercising regularly. What you put on your skin is just as important as what you eat. Therefore try to maintain a healthy beauty routine by using natural skincare products. Ensure that your skin is cleansed, exfoliated, and moisturised as needed, before you apply makeup. Exfoliation should be done once or twice a week to get rid of impurities on the skin.

2. Avoid too many products

Our usual routine may involve cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser, sunscreen, primer, BB cream, and then foundation. Depending on your skin type, this layering of products may not work well for everyone. If you want your foundation to last all day, just use one or two products. You could use a primer which contains sunscreen, or foundation that contains sunscreen.

3. Like attracts like

As far as possible, the ingredients on your moisturiser should match the ingredients on your foundation. Therefore if your moisturiser is oil based, your foundation should be oil based. If the first ingredient on your moisturiser is water, then your foundation should be water based. If you mix water with oil, your foundation will probably slide off. Adhering to the compatibility of your products will allow the foundation to “stick” onto your skin and hold all day.

4. Use the right foundation for your needs

If you have flawless skin, you can get away with using tinted moisturiser or a light-weight foundation. However, if you have imperfections that you’d like to hide, rather than using a large amount of a light-weight foundation, you’re better off using a full coverage foundation.

5. Set your foundation

Use a powder puff with loose powder and press it onto your skin. Use enough powder as this is what creates a picture perfect finish. Loose powder sets foundation in place while producing a flawless effect. If you’re worried about getting too much powder under your eyes, you can dab it off using a tissue. Finish up with two or three spritz of setting spray.
