Trader charged with stealing church chairs

Living

A businessman has landed in court after he was found selling chairs that were allegedly stolen from a church.

Kevin Hamisi was charged after he was found with chairs belonging to the House of Prayer Worship in Kariobangi. According to the prosecution, Hamisi was found selling 30 plastic chairs worth Sh18, 000 on December 10.

He was also accused of handling stolen property. He is said to have dishonestly retained seven plastic chairs valued at Sh4, 200 knowing or having reasons to believe them to be stolen property.

It is stated that the church's pastor went to clean the church in the afternoon in readiness for service only to find 30 chairs missing. This forced her to start looking around the neighbourhood and luckily she found them being sold as second-hand items.

The matter was reported to the police and Hamisi was traced and found in possession of seven chairs.

His attempts to escape were unsuccessful as he was apprehended. In court, Hamisi denied the charges and was set free on a cash bail of Sh30, 000.

The case will be mentioned on February 2 before the hearing starts on May 23.
