For the last two years, a couple have been trying to have a baby with no success.
The wife has been desperate to see the two pink lines appear on the stick, but was starting to lose hope after a doctor informed her that her eggs "were of low quality".
Disappointment has taken its toll on the pair and they'd been considering trying IVF, but the cost is great.
The unnamed woman had given up taking pregnancy tests, believing it wouldn't happen for her any time soon, but when she began to feel unwell at a friend's house, her pal suggested she try one just to be sure.
She explained what happened afterwards in detail in a post on Reddit's Am I The A**hole Forum.
The woman's post read: "I was hanging out with a group of my close friends at my best friend’s house. Kind of a girls' night thing we do.
"I was complaining that I was feeling nauseous and tired. My best friend pulled me aside and asked if it was possible if I was pregnant. I said probably not but I admitted I hadn’t taken a pregnancy test in a while.
"She insisted I take a pregnancy test since people were drinking at our gathering and although I didn’t really want to she had a bunch of extra tests at her place so I took one.
"It was shockingly positive."
The woman goes on to say how excited she was, but to be sure she took a second test which confirmed she was over three weeks pregnant.
"I was just in a state of shock and basically crying and all my closest friends were at her house and there was no way I could keep silent so I ended up telling everyone at the gathering," she said.
She wanted to tell her husband, but claims he was away on a business trip that evening so she decided to wait until he was back the following day so she could give him the wonderful news in person.
However, when he found out that he wasn't the first person she told about the pregnancy, he was furious.
"As soon as he got home from his business trip I told him I was pregnant. He was ecstatic and we celebrated for about 10 minutes but then he asked me how many people knew and I told him all the girls who I was with knew and he became angry.
"He said it was weird that 12 people who I’m not related to knew before he did and I should have told him first and then was angry I waited a day to tell him.
"I was a little put off by how angry he was as I felt he was taking away from a joyous moment for no reason. Ideally he would have been the first to know but it didn’t work out that way."
She adds that she thought he was being a "bit ridiculous" so she didn't apologise to him, which made him even angrier.
"I honestly don’t think I did anything wrong. He thinks this is an example of how I put my friends over him, am I the a**hole," she asked.
More than 150 people have replied to the woman's Reddit post, sharing their thoughts, with many siding with the husband.
One person commented: "I struggled to get pregnant with my first two kids due to PCOS so I get it. The long awaited positive. But it’s been his journey too, and he deserved to know before all your girlfriends. Your Best Friend I think is understandable, but not the whole group. I don’t blame him for being upset at first and needing a little time."
Another wrote: "Refusing to apologize makes you the a**hole. It doesn’t matter if you hurt him intentionally, you hurt him. You forgot he’s as emotionally invested in this as you."
A third said: "This could’ve been one of the most intimate moments of his life. Instead he’s like the 12th person to find out. Dude’s hurt. You’re minimizing him. Gross."
However not everyone thought she was in the wrong.
Someone else replied: "It's not like you went out with the intention of taking a pregnancy test and it's a good thing that your friend encouraged you to take one so you didn't take any unnecessary risks that night."
