Diana Chepkemoi, a domestic worker who was stranded in Saudi Arabia, has been offered a chance to complete her university education.

The Meru University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Romanus Odhiambo Wednesday, September 7, 2022, said the institution was in communication with Chepkemoi's family.

"We commend everyone who played a part in sharing her story and ensuring we have her in safe hands. This goes to show the power of unity and love within our great country," said Prof Odhiambo.

Ms Chepkemoi, who arrived back on Tuesday, was admitted at the university on August 31, 2017, to study Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Management.

Request to change her course, opting for the Bachelor of Education, was granted in May 2019.

She, however, deferred her studies the same year to seek employment in the Middle East country because her family could not raise college fees.

But Prof Odhiambo said the institution is committed to ensuring she completes her course.

"We welcome back Diana Chepkemoi, a member of the university family, to complete her studies. We have informed her family of the support we shall offer her in order to successfully complete her studies."

The institution said she will be placed in the work-study programme designed to help needy students raise funds for their studies.

"She will enjoy a flexible schedule to study and serve within the university library. Ms Chepkemoi will be granted accommodation within the university," said Prof Odhiambo.
