The eagerly awaited BLAZE BYOB Summit kicked off in Meru with a bang! This year, they did things a little bit different from last year and took empowerment to the next level. First, there was the pre-screening phase where BLAZERs presented their business ideas to the mentors. The shortlisted candidates then proceeded on to the Creation Camps that took place over a course of two days.
During this 48-hour period, the mentors intensely inspired these budding bosses with their own experiences and presented them with practical skills with which to pitch, develop and expand their business ideas. The training took place in different passion pods i.e Agriculture, Retail and Manufacturing, Fashion, Technology, Film and Photography, Creative Arts and Music.
The winners from each pod were rewarded at the Summit with Ksh. 100,000 to go towards their respective businesses. They included:
Dennis Mwiti in Fashion, Sammy Gikunda and Isaac Allan in Film and Photography, Sarah Moraa in Music, Maltex Kaunda in Agriculture, Marvin Kabiru in Creative Arts and Joy Nkirote in Retail and Manufacturing
This time round, 2 days were dedicated for guys to audition for the upcoming season two of the BYOB TV Show, and boy, did the BLAZERs turn up in large numbers!
As usual during the Summit, there were the pod sessions where BLAZERs interacted one-on-one with their mentors and learnt through the lens of their inspiring stories. At the main pod, further messages of inspiration were showcased to the BLAZERs in attendance, both from the mentors and motivational video snippets.
The ever-blazing emcees, Mwalimu Racheal and Timmy T Dat kept the crowd entertained and most of all informed of the various BLAZE services available to them. DJ Crème de la Crème had the crowd on their feet and super thrilled with his epic skills. But what’s a BYOB Summit without fiery performances? To seal the deal, the BLAZERs were treated to unforgettable performances from King Kaka, Khaligraph Jones and of course the crowd pleaser, Timmy T Dat.
At the end of it all, lives were changed, souls inspired and the youth empowered to relentlessly follow their dreams. You don’t want to miss out on the Summits when they come to your town! Keep the tabs on here for the next Summit 411.
