On March 7, 2016, we were travelling from Kisumu to Nairobi aboard a private vehicle hoping to reach our destination quickly. On reaching the Ahero police roadblock, we were flagged down and later led to the police station for having boarded a vehicle not licensed to carry passengers.
The base commander read us a riot act!
Personal vehicle are not licensed to carry passengers and do not have such insurance cover. He reminded us of the dangers of boarding such vehicles.
He later called a Molo Line shuttle from Kisumu to come and collect us from Ahero and went ahead to refund us the cash that we paid since the driver claimed he left the cash in Kisumu.
All this was done in a very professional way. My previous experience in police stations is nothing close to Ahero Police Station! The officers who took our statements were very friendly.
