Leah Njeri is a single mother of two children — six-year-old Jackson and two-year-old Leticia.
She describes herself as the ‘Mother of Widows’ through her foundation, Wazaire for Wajane Foundation. She is supporting 870 widows from Voi, Juja, Mwea, Murang’a and has plans to expand the programme to other areas.
She has initiated income generating activities for them, including rice farming in Mwea, pig farming in Juja and Murang’a and a bakery in Voi.
“The response that I have got from the widows is really encouraging. Through the projects, they have been able to provide for themselves and their children and educate them,” says Leah.
She organises monthly visits to support them and to spearhead the programme. She works in collaboration with the respective church leaders to bring them together.
Leah hardly visits social places and prefers spending the little free time she gets with her children.
She is born again and goes to church at the Redeemed Gospel Church in Kasarani.
