Hundreds of families in Nairobi's Pipeline Embakasi slum have been left
homeless after their homes were demolished for allegedly encroaching
into land belonging to a private developer. Police have had to use tear
gas to repulse angry residents who fought the demolition squad which
descended on the village this morning under the watchful eye of the
police as residents struggled to salvage their belongings. Families
watched in disbelief as their houses were flattened by the bulldozers.
Emotions ran high in the informal settlement located near Imara Daima
estate in Embakasi with residents claiming influential land owners were
behind the demolitions
