After a long search for a publisher, Isabella Kamau has released her first book.
The novel, The Platform, covers the diverse lives of the urban-bred Njoki and the rural-dwelling Senteu.
When a young researcher, Njoki, is given a field assignment in the Rift Valley to investigate and collect data on the Maasai way of life, she goes, leaving behind her boyfriend who has no appreciation for her work. Njoki is intrigued by the culture but also encounters challenges. She loves the beauty of Maasailand. Eventually, she falls in love with Senteu, a moran.
The 144-page book makes interesting reading.
"I am intrigued by the Maasai and visited them to research my book. I wanted to share what I learnt with my readers," says Isabella.
The author intends the book to appeal to a broad spectrum of people as well as high school and college students.
Kamau, a Social Sciences graduate of the Catholic University of East Africa, says finding a willing publisher is a major challenge. She is working on a second book.
