You want a degree from an overseas university without boarding a plane and having to live abroad? Inoorero University has made this possible.
Last week, the university signed a collaboration agreement with California Miramar University (CMU).
Under the arrangement, the university will offer CMU’s courses locally using the online mode. This will enable students to interact with their lecturers, learn and complete their coursework online.
Speaking during the ceremony, Inoorero Vice-Chancellor Prof Henry Thairu said the move was aimed at utilising the available broad band Internet services to offer foreign degrees locally, therefore eliminating the need to travel abroad.
He said the mode offered a flexible learning environment and was a diversion from the conventional classroom lecture.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr Dominic Mwenja, President of CMU said his institution had rigorous admission criteria.
"We ensure our students satisfy the standards required by accrediting bodies in the United States. This collaboration will enable us to make a contribution to the development of human capital in Kenya," he said.
Under the new deal, CMU will offer degree programmes that are not available locally. These include Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees with specialisation in telecommunications management, taxation and trade for executives. It will also offer Associate degrees to Kenyans who could not previously access university education.
