They succumbed after a head-on collision between a Chuka matatu heading to Nairobi and a lorry headed towards Meru.

Eight out of the eleven people on board the ill fated matatu died on the spot.

Also dead on the spot was the lorry driver.

The three who sustained injuries were rushed to Embu Level Five hospital.

Elsewhere, four people died Thursday morning in an accident in Maanzoni area, Machakos County along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway after their car rolled.

Three of the boys were cousins while the fourth one their friend and they were leaving Machakos Park for Nairobi when the accident happened at about 6 am.

Police said the victims had ushered in the 2015 and were leaving Machakos for Nairobi’s Embakasi area where they stayed when the accident happened.
