Light the way in your home

When it comes to decorating your home, lights play a magical role as they can change the whole décor.

This does not mean that too many lights are equal to a lifetime of magic; as the saying goes, too much of something is poisonous.

To start with, there are different types of lighting based on the purpose they play in a house. These are ambient, task, decorative and accent lighting.

Ambient lighting is used to evenly light up a room and it could be achieved from natural or overhead lighting.

Task lighting is used when accomplishing a task like reading or cooking whereas accent lighting is used to highlight specific aspects of a room, including artworks or plants.

Decorative lighting is used only for aesthetic purposes and this is what we shall be looking at.

LED lights, mainly strip lights, are commonly used for this purpose and they work well if you know where to place them.

Did you know there is a way to make decorative lights more appealing? If you are asking, ‘how?’ cotton wool would be the answer.

Cotton wool on decorative lights gives elegant cloud lighting, not too bright or too dull, just enough to work as a decorative light.

To achieve this, first, you have to install the strip light in a place of interest and in a pattern of your own choice.

Space the strips slightly away from each other to give a fading illusion once the wool is added.

After installation, put some glue on the wool and stick it nicely on the strip making sure to cover it fully.

Now switch on the light and see the magic, a Disney cloud lighting up your small space.

This can help while watching a movie, chilling in a house but not in need of bright lights or when sleeping, for those who cannot sleep in the dark.

Please note that this method is only limited by your imagination. You can use it on décor lights and ambient lights that seem too bright.
