Showering is an automatic routine we engage in every day. Whether you shower in the morning, at night, or once or twice a day, this is something that we already know we need to do.

The main and obvious reason why we take baths daily is for hygiene purposes. No one wants to walk into the office with yesterday's funk because people notice these details.

This discussion on whether it's actually necessary to shower every single day has been debated many times. It turns out you don't actually have to shower every day but, there are more details that you should know so let's delve deeper:

Why shower every day?

Being fresh and smelling clean every day helps to strengthen your own esteem. You even feel more confident being around other people because at least you know your body is not full of dirt and sweat from previous days.

This is actually true because you might feel a bit off if you don't shower and you're going to an important meeting that day. If you're going on a date, you will absolutely make sure you have a bath before you leave the house even if you showered the previous day. So, apply the same energy regardless of whether you're just going to pick up the kids from school or you have been home all day.

From a scientific perspective, showering daily helps to eliminate the buildup of oils and bacteria that could potentially irritate your skin.

Why shower every other day?

Showering only a few times a week might also have some benefits. This can be particularly helpful for people who struggle with dry skin since it helps preserve the limited amount of natural hydrating oils.

There are dermatologists who suggest that most people only need about three to four baths a week and that showering daily might not have as many benefits as we imagine.

What is the best option?

What you decide eventually depends on your preference. That is because our bodies are different and, we live different lifestyles.

If you're someone who sweats a lot or carries out heavy activities every day like working out, then showering every day is best. But if you're often indoors and don't really move around a lot, then you could benefit from the convenience of bathing a few times a week.

However, if we're honest with ourselves, most of us still prefer to hop in the shower daily. It also doesn't sound appealing if you tell people you only shower a few times a week even though your routine is perfectly healthy for your skin.

Shower Tips:

For you to get the benefits of both worlds, you need to shower the right way. First, shower with warm water instead of boiling hot which could quickly damage and dry out your skin.

The next thing is to limit how long your baths are so stick to ten minutes maximum. The longer you spend bathing, the higher the risk of compromising your skin's protective barrier.

You should also make sure you're using moisturizing soaps that will help keep your skin hydrated. And lastly, let your skin be slightly moist as you apply your moisturizers immediately after.
