Actress Eva Mendes sparks debate, compares smacking children to domestic violence

Eva Mendes has sparked a debate about disciplining children after she shared her stance on smacking.
The 47-year-old actress, who shares daughters Esmeralda Amada, six, and Amada Lee, four, with husband Ryan Gosling, stated in an Instagram post on Monday that hitting children as punishment it comparable to domestic violence.
The Hitch star posted on Instagram one of the most often asked questions of her before sharing her favourite thought on parenting.
Eva wrote: "I'm often asked what my favourite red carpet dress is. This @versace is definitely up there. Im not often asked what my favourite parenting quote is, but I'll post it anyway."
On a second slide she wrote: "Spanking does for a child's development what hitting a spouse does for a marriage."
Surprisingly, there were a number of commenters who disagreed with Eva, with one writing: "I don't know. I was spanked and now I'm a respectful adult. And believe me, I deserved those whoopings. I was a brat."
Eva hit back at the comment, writing: "thank you for your comment. So happy to agree to disagree. Want this page to offer that in a loving way. We all parent our own way and I have no idea what I'm doing most the time."
She added: "This didn't come with a manual so when there's something that resonates with me, I pass it on. Lotsa love."
This was met by another commenter, who said that they "completely disagree," and that their "goal in raising kids is not to have to spank, but it's correcting before they can reason behaviour out with you."
Eva shared the comment as she believed the sentiment should have a bigger platform.
