Christmas holidays are all about taking it easy. It’s about good food, good company and all the fun you can pack in those few days before the reality of a new year starts.

Before the holidays, it’s easier to stay on track with your workouts, meal plans and clean eating.

But once the festivities begin, we slowly sink back into our old ways and gain a few unnecessary kilos by January and who can blame you?

Unfortunately, that means you will be starting your brand-new year on a bad note because you have to spend time shedding off the extra weight when you could have been steps ahead on your health journey.

This year, it’s time to do things differently.

You can find a way to stick to your diet and celebrate Christmas by trying out these simple holiday dieting hacks:

Prepare your meals

Don’t get carried away the buy one, get one free meal offers that are being promoted everywhere. December is a month of deals and discounts and that is one of the sneaky traps that can cause you to revert to unhealthy eating habits.

Instead, kill the temptation of going overboard by preparing and eating you own meals at home especially before going out for a party or before going for shopping.

You should also prepare some healthy but delicious snacks for you to enjoy instead of feeling like you have no choice but to snack on unhealthy options being served.

Spruce up your diet

As you get comfortable with preparing your own meals during the holidays, you should make things more exciting by trying new recipes.

There is an assumption that dieting is just about eating dry, boring meals and that is simply not true. You will be surprised to find that there are so many nutritious meal options that are even much better than the unhealthy ones.

Now is the perfect opportunity for you to combine new and exciting flavors for your holiday and post-holiday meals.

Enjoy with moderation

It’s okay to celebrate with some comfort food while you are in that holiday mood. You shouldn’t feel guilty about enjoying a hotdog or a few slices of pizza just because you’re on a diet.

However, you still need to be careful and know your limits because you definitely don’t want to end up feasting too much on foods that could reverse all your hard work.

Drink enough water

Water has many health benefits for our bodies. It specifically comes in handy when you’re trying to maintain healthy eating habits over the holidays.

Drinking enough water during the day will help you make wiser choices on when and what you choose to eat.

It’s a better alternative to sugar packed drinks and you still get enjoy all the benefits that come with it.

Let your ‘no’ mean ‘no’

Sticking to your diet is very crucial especially if you’re on the verge of or already dealing with serious health conditions that require you to be strict with your meal choices.

It isn’t worth it to ignore all the health warning signs and that is why you need to get serious.

If you have been instructed by your doctor to avoid certain things, make sure you follow up even during this season.

You can still go for parties and feel fulfilled knowing that you’re doing your best to live a long, healthy life.
