Four reasons you should not pick your nose

Health

We have all picked our noses at one point in our lives in search of that boogie. Some of us may deny but when alone and in private spaces, the temptation in normally irresistible and one easily ends up exploring their nasal cavity. Despite the satisfaction that comes with digging into your nose, did you know it’s dangerous to pick your nose?

Here are four dangers you expose yourself to when you pick your nose:

Introducing germs into your body- Anytime you pick your nose, there are germs that are transferred to your nose. The germs could be from the toilet, dust, or other people’s hands depending on what you had been using your hands for. Damaging your nasal septum- The nasal septum is the bone and cartilage in the nose that separates the nasal cavity into the two nostrils. Its main role is to allow the air we breathe in through our nostrils and direct it from the tip of the nose to the back of the nose and to the lungs. Picking your nose can damage the nasal septum as it fragile. Nose bleeding- There is a lining in the nose that contains many tiny blood vessels that lie close to the surface and are easily damaged when one picks their nose hard. Picking your nose can easily result in the damaging of these vessels thus causing nose bleeding. Developing pimples inside your nose- The skin, including the inside of the nose, is covered with pores that have hair follicles to prevent bacteria from getting into the body. Picking the nose can result in pimples at the nostril openings as the rubbing blocks the hair follicles resulting in pimples. This condition is called folliculitis whereby one gets red and/or white bumps inside their nose.
