Prince Harry and Meghan held a secret meeting with a top US Democrat before the US election, it has emerged.
The couple are said to have spent an hour on a video call with Governor of the state, Gavin Newsom, on October 19 last year.
Mr Newsom, 54, was once widely considered to be a White House frontrunner and was being pressed at the time of the call to replace Kamala Harris former position as California Senator with another black woman, the Sun on Sunday reports.
According to a memo seen by the paper, the video link-up came shortly after a California-based couple were criticised for getting involved in the presidential election debate.
Mr Newsom’s office did not reveal what the couple discussed with him, with a spokesman saying: “We do not comment on the content of meetings between the Governor and private parties or his staff.”
But a screenshot of the meeting appears to show it was listed as an ‘introductory meeting’
The secret meeting is said to have come just a few weeks after Meghan and Harry waded into the presidential debate.
Meghan described the election as the ‘most important..of our lifetime’ and said, “When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard.
"Your voice is a reminder that you matter. Because you do. And you deserve to be heard.”
Prince Harry also put his opinion forward, saying: “As we approach this November, it’s vital we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.’”
The royal’s comments raised eyebrows at the time as members of the Royal Family are expected to remain politically neutral.
But since carving out a new ‘progressive role’ for themselves in the US, the couple have spoken out about then-President Trump, which led to him responding by saying: “I’m not a fan of hers. I wish a lot of luck to Harry, because he’s going to need it.”
