Intimacy in a marriage is super important. Even when you don’t feel like it, intimacy can save your marriage and relationship from a possible breakup and problems that could easily be avoided if you took the time to be intimate.

In long term relationships, couples can go for weeks without even touching each other. And when one feels like it, the partner is often not in the mood. Well, feigning headaches or pretending to be asleep is not good for your union.

While it is understandable that different people have different sex drives, a compromise must be reached to make both partners happy.

When this perfect balance is reached and everyone is satisfied, the ability to resolve conflict and forgive each other happens easily.

We look at how that works.

i.Intimacy is an act of love

The best way you can show your partner you value their needs and care about them is by giving in to making love even when you don’t feel like it.

Sometimes you have to show up and engage. This helps cultivate love and affection in your marriage or relationship. There is no better way to express how you feel without saying a word other than being intimate.

And this way, your partner will be happier and be more willing to resolve any issues that may arise between the two of you.

ii.It draws you closer

Sometimes you may be at loggerheads and at that point nothing seems to be working. The time you decide to get intimate, everything blows over and you reconnect emotionally.

This special bond will help create a safe space where the two of you can be able to open up freely and communicate. It is here where healing and forgiveness takes place.

iii.There is less tension

I know life can get hectic but you must make time for each other. There are certain instances where couples are having problems because of lack of intimacy.

Be intentional and deliberate about spending time together and making love. By doing this occasionally you will realize the built-up tension that was once there slowly start to fade.

iv.It builds trust

Intimacy requires some level of vulnerability and as a couple you literally have to bear it all. This opens you up for either rejection or acceptance.

When you’re both receptive and accommodating of each other sexually, it strengthens your trust and your bond will grow even stronger, making it easy for you to forgive and be kind to each other.

v.Helps you focus on each other

One of the reasons couples tend to cheat is because the relationship has become monotonous and they start looking for excitement outside.

The routine is the same day in, day out and soon, intimacy no longer exists. This can lead a partner to seek for validation and sexual satisfaction elsewhere.

But had the intimacy been satisfactory and regular, he or she would not be galivanting in the streets looking for distractions but they would have focused and poured all their attention in the marriage.
