Flawless skin is sold as admirable by mainstream media and for this reason many women will do anything to get rid of body hair to achieve the so called standards of beauty. Amongst the many ways they can do is laser treatment.

If you’ve heard of laser hair removal before, you know that the procedure involves the use of laser technology to get rid of unwanted hair.

Here is a list of things you should know about laser hair removal whether you’re just curious or possibly considering getting this procedure done in the near future. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

How does it work?

The laser hair removal machine uses a pulse of light that is converted to heat. This light targets the hair follicles on your skin which then prevents hair from growing.

Is it painful?

For the most part, the procedure is not painful. However, you may feel a slight discomfort particularly when you first have the procedure. If you’re having the laser hair removal done and the pain is excruciating, there is a problem.

Is it permanent?

Yes laser hair removal permanently stops the follicles from producing any hair. The follicles will be dormant for a very long time so you can throw away your shaving blades and waxing strips.

Can the procedure be done on any part of the body?

It can be done on the face, armpits, bikini area, legs, practically any other part of the body. The machine is adjusted accordingly depending on what part of the body you want done. The procedure works well on small areas like the chin to large parts like the legs.

Is it for all skin tones?

Laser hair removal is for every skin tone but it works best for lighter skin tones. The machine targets melanin in the hair follicles which can then affect the melanin in the skin if your skin tone is darker. Some people have even experienced burns when the machine failed to distinguish the melanin on the skin from the melanin in the follicles.

How long does it take?

Laser hair removal usually involves a number of procedures depending on the area being dealt with. It’s not usually a one-time thing because it’s a delicate process. The technician will schedule sessions for you until the job is complete. Also, the procedures are usually spaced to give the area time to heal. It’s not something that will be done on many consecutive days at a go. You should also know that there is no downtime after a session. You can actually get it done during your lunch break and be back at the office when you’re done.

Are there pre-treatments?

When you go for consultation, you’ll be given guidelines on how to prepare the area before the day of the procedure. They might instruct you not to shave, wax or disturb the area before you come in for your appointment.

Is there aftercare?

Some of the guidelines they might give you include avoiding disturbing the area. You shouldn’t scrub the area or do anything to irritate the skin that has been treated for some time.

If this is something that you would consider, go to a qualified clinic for the procedure. Get as many reviews as you can to make sure you’re going to a reputable place.
