Ketanji Brown Jackson has been confirmed as the first black woman to serve on the US Supreme Court in over 233 years.
Vice President Kamala Harris who is also the first black woman vice president presided over this historic vote in her capacity as senate President.
The 51-year-old will be succeeding Justice Stephen Breyer whose term ends in June. Until then, she will continue to serve on the United States Court of Appeals awaiting her swearing in ceremony.
This win comes after she had been nominated by President Joe Biden who had promised to nominate a black woman to the top court during his democratic presidential nomination campaign.
A promise he has fulfilled.
When the time comes, Ms. Jackson will be part of a nine-member court, four of whom will be women, marking yet another historic moment.
