Are lies taking over your life? The truth is, we are all guilty of lying to ourselves.
Although the lies you tell yourself may give you some comfort and enable you to get over certain situations, they may cost you in the long run. And yes, they may be harmless but they do prevent you from making important changes in your life.
When you lie to yourself, you create all manner of excuses and you avoid taking any risks.
These cognitive distortions, if not dealt with, become ego syntonic and before you know it, you start believing those lies. Regardless of the reality in front of you, you choose to stubbornly cling to lies and soon your behavior follows suit.
Before you can get yourself out of this hole, you must recognize the problem, be aware and be willing to stop telling yourself these lies.
I will do it laterPutting things off and leaving them to the very last minute or past their deadline is a dangerous habit. If you can do it now do not push that chance to a later date. As they say, never put off ‘till tomorrow what you can do today.
If you’re not careful, procrastination will kill your ambition. You will always be under unnecessary high pressure to deliver when you had all the chances to do it at your own pace. Before you know it, you start hating your job, you’re flanking exams and school becomes an unbearable chore.
That attitude of not doing what you should do for fear of being misunderstood needs to end. Stop worrying about what other people think of you because chances are, they are not looking at you in a negative light.
You will be surprised at how well those around you know you. Your family and friends are more understanding than you think and no matter the outcome they will be riding behind you. Allow yourself to be vulnerable in front of them and do what you’re meant to do.
It’s too lateIs it ever? Don’t let fear get in your way. Live your life the best way you can. If you have always wanted to travel or enroll for a certain course this is the best time to do it. With each passing day you lose time.
You will never be as young as you are today so what are you waiting for?
Being that we’re all different, you may find your passion at a much later time in life and don’t allow age or family to get in your way. If you are determined to accomplish that one goal, do not allow your imaginary timeframe stop you.
Who told you so? Unless someone is willing to change there is nothing you or anyone can do. The lies we tell ourselves are simply that, lies.
You will often hear people say, ‘’after we get married, he will stop partying,’’ or ‘’if only I can convince my partner that he should stop drinking’’ is nothing but a manipulative tactic that will backfire in your face.
Do not force or try to turn someone into something else no matter how destructive their life may be. If they don’t want to change, they won’t. If you can’t accept them as they are you can choose to distance yourself.
I can’tWe all have moments when we doubt our capabilities and strengths. Chances are, you actually can. All you really have to do is try.
Think about it, it is better to try and fail than not try and live to regret it wondering what could have been.
Keep pushing and stop doubting yourself. Whatever it takes to get it done, do it. The constant negative thoughts you can’t do it will reinforce that message and you will never take any risks or do anything.
