If you've ever been stuck with an unsightly spill on the carpet, you'll know it can feel like a lost cause.
One mum believed she had tried everything in the book and decided to get the carpet replaced as a last resort - until the handyman she contacted for the job passed on a brilliant tip which left it looking as good as new.
Lisa Youell had even had professional cleaners attempt to shift a deep red stain from her stairs that happened when her youngest daughter accidentally dropped toy red sand on the grey carpet, Yorkshire Live reports.
The mum-of-four from Huddersfield gave up in her attempts and asked a handyman to replace the carpet with an off cut, but he instead asked if she had tried using WD-40.

Unsure about the tip but with nothing left to lose, Lisa have it a go and shared the incredible before and after results on Facebook as she raved about the hack.
She wrote: "Just had our local handyman around to replace a piece of our carpet which has been stained by kiddies coloured sand.
"He told me to use WD-40 on it, I did and I didn't have to even scrub it! Took me 5 seconds to rub it off!
"I've had the carpet professionally cleaned, used numerous cleaning substances on it as recommended by the toy company when I made a complaint and good old bleach didn't even remove it!

"Thanks for your top handyman tip! Share this post for all them other poor carpets ruined by slime and coloured sand."
She added: "At this time of year there are so many new toys and people knocking things over and staining and ruining carpets.
"I would never have thought of WD-40 but most people have it in the house and it is definitely worth a try."
