Baby Drago’s diary: Fishy cousins make baby a good boy

Last weekend at our house, it was so noisy and very exciting. Here came my Aunt Faye and Uncle Blackie, with cousin Laila who is 3 years like me. They were going Bungoma to see in-laws, and so left Laila in our house.

Then came Aunt Philo, with her son Saulo, who is 7 years old and so bad. Aunt Philo is the oldest, and shosh was not feeling so well in ushago so she left Saulo in our ‘crib’ as she calls it, to go and check on my shosh and Ntagu.

Also came my Aunty Emma, who is a teacher, but wants to do a side ‘house all’ of fish. Emma she not only leave her boy, Nathan (Nate), 5, but also a middle aquarium full of fishes. Then she go to catch SGR for Mombasa.

So now we are four in the house – me, Laila, Nate and Saulo with the grown ups – my mummy, Daddy, nanny Alicia and Milan. Ok, maybe Milan is only nine, but these days, she act like she is older than all of us tois.

In fact after breakfast, Milan wented away, out of home, to go and play with her older friends called Nia and Mia (the twins), Winnie Wendo and Rihana, who are 8 to 11 years old.

My Papa bought me very nice contractions toys two weeks ago, when it was being end month. So after we watched ‘Partington Bear’ and ‘Pepper Pigs,’ we play with my contraction toys!

Me I keep the tipper truck, because it is my favourite. Saulo, who is big boy, snatch my crane from cousin Nate. So Nate he takes cement mixer truck. No truck left for Laila to play for! When she starts to cry, Saulo shout: ‘Contraction toys are for boys. Go play with your dolls.’ Laila she run away crying to my mummy’s bedroom.

I always say to my Daddy: ‘When Baby Drago is big, he will build BIG houses, like those ones when we goes to town ...’

After a while, we hear a wail from my mummy’s bedroom. ‘Wuuiii, Laila, umefanya nini?’ Kumbe my mummy when she is in her long Saturday bath, Laila has put on her lipstick, splash powders on her face and spray her expensive fumes till it finishes.

Lil Laila looks like ‘geisha’ in Japan film we sawed, and smells fumes so much that baby chokes.

Lunch is chipo and chicken and smokies and soda – ‘a special Saturday treat’ – my Papa he says. But Nate he eats so much, he throw up on carpet, spoiling everyone appetite except for Saulo.

But Saulo is doing us the baddest! When Papa is watching early afternoon football, Saulo sneak into Papa’s house office to watch ‘YouTube’ – but he somehow knocks down the komputa. And cracks the screen kabisa!

Somehow, I manage not to get into trouble, because I do nothing bad, all of last Saturday.

Mommy even sends Alicia to buy me a big black currant, which Papa present to me in fronts. I share my ‘Best Behave’ gift — none for Saulo and Milan, a little for Nate and a lot for Lil Laila.

When I go bed, mum hugs me and says: ‘You have been a very good boy, today.’

I should be happy, but I worry a bit. About me – and about the fish that Emma brought us. You see when everyone had gone to bed, I returned to sitting room; and poured remainder of Black Currant into the fish tank.
