You are probably washing your face wrong

Skin Care

Your face is a delicate part of your body and it has the most delicate skin in comparison to the other parts. I got to know this hard truth in my teens when my face was bursting with all sorts of pimples and acne. Coming up with a good face-cleaning routine was necessary.

Here are some ways to wash and take care of your face:

Using hot water and soap

For the love of hot showers, you might be treating your face in the same manner as the rest of your body. When you pop into the shower, you tilt your head to face the showerhead and allow the hot shower water to pass over your face. Not only does washing your face with hot water make it flaky, but it also makes it so sensitive that I had to visit a doctor.

Using warm water is the best alternative. As a rule of the thumb, be sure to do it on a daily basis. It is best to wash your face with warm water before bed so as to remove all the sweat, dirt and makeup that you had during the day. In the morning, you can gently pat it with the lukewarm water.

Using sulphate-based cleansers

With all the variety of skincare products in the market today, it may be hard to know which one to go for. To make your work easier, begin by cutting off any sulphate-based cleansers. They can lead to extremely sensitive skin as they tend to corrode the face. If you want to remove make up with ease, opt for cleansers that are not sulphate-based. Instead, opt for the oil-based cleansers. Some olive oil or coconut oil can be good alternatives.

Exfoliating your face daily

Don’t scrub your face so vigorously. Much as it is necessary to exfoliate so as to remove any dead skin and refresh your skin, doing it in excess has the worst results. This step is meant to be done once or twice a week so as to avoid braising the skin. Don’t use a brush. Instead of using a facial scrub, try using a soft washcloth with some oil to rub your skin in a circular motion. You can also consider going the homemade way and use one teaspoon of granulated sugar, honey and milk can also work.

Rinsing your skin

Every pro will echo back these words, ‘Rinse your skin with cool or warm water’. In the same way you should initially avoid washing your face with hot water due to its drying properties, you should rinse off without it.

Rubbing your skin when drying

Many of us are victims to doing this. You’ve followed the first four steps to the letter only to come mess up when you’re concluding. When drying your face, rubbing it with a rough towel doesn’t auger well with your face. This will tend to make your face flakier. Instead, pat your face gently with a soft fabric towel. It will ensure that your skin is dry but not super dry.

Using harsh moisturizers

What are the contents of your moisturizer? If you have irritated skin, using Aloe promises to sooth as it makes a great light, oil-free moisturizer. If your skin is the oily type, feel free to forego moisturizer completely, or just apply it to the spots where your skin gets dry.

Once you follow these steps of washing your face religiously, your face is sure to glow.

If you could choose any age, to stay in for the rest of your life, which would it be?
