Three easy DIY smoothies for kids

You may be dealing with a picky eater or may just want to offer your kids something different from the usual. Shakes are a great alternative to whole fresh fruit and vegetables. They contain a blend of the two, with optional additions of nuts and dairy products like yogurt.

Try these recipes and have your kids finally get the nutrition they need to grow.

1. Green grape smoothie

Preparation Time: 10mins, Servings: 1

Grapes are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Their sweet and tangy taste can add flavour to the green smoothie. This grape smoothie is amazing and the colour will entice the kids.

Ingredients:

2 cups of deseeded grapes

1 sliced banana, frozen or fresh

A handful of parsley

1 cup spinach leaves

1/2 cup of low-fat milk or water

Preparation

1. Wash the spinach and grapes properly.

2. Blend all the ingredients to the desired consistency and serve.

2. Beetroot blueberry smoothie

Preparation Time: 10mins, Servings: 1

Beetroot and blueberry is a rare yet delectable combination. Beetroot contain iron, magnesium, vitamin C, and dietary fibre. Blueberries have antioxidants and phytonutrients.

Ingredients

2 beetroots, peeled and diced or grated

1 apple, peeled and diced

50g blueberry

1tbsp grated ginger

Water

Preparation:

1. Add the beetroot, apple, blueberries, and grated ginger to a blender and puree till you get a smooth mixture.

2. Add water to adjust consistency and blend again for 20 seconds. Serve fresh.

3. Chocolate almond milk smoothie

Preparation Time: 5min, Servings: 1

Almost every child loves chocolate. It has this sweetness that gets them upbeat. Here’s a recipe for the ultimate chocolate smoothie.

Ingredients

½ cup unsweetened almond milk or low-fat cow’s milk

¾ cup chocolate yogurt

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Dark chocolate for topping

Ice cubes

Preparation:

1. Add milk and frozen chocolate yoghurt to the blender and puree them to get a smooth consistency.

2. Add a few ice cubes and blend again for 20 seconds. Pour it into a glass and serve immediately.
