Eight hair trends that made headlines in 2018

Hair

Well, 2018 has seen the unleashing of new hairstyles and am certain you remember the last time you visited your stylist, and came out feeling confident and younger. Possibly, you did a lot of research to know what hairstyle will bring out your best look.

Let’s explore some the hairstyles that gave many Kenyan women an urge to try them out:

1. Faux Locs

Faux locs are a great protective style, because they allow wearers to change up their look and give their natural hair a break. They are more lightweight and have arguably the most natural appearance.

Due to irritation after braiding them, it’s advisable to soak the hair in an apple cider vinegar solution and water then soak it in plain water to rinse out the apple cider vinegar. This is to remove kanekalon which is a chemical coated on the hair.

2. Box Braids

This is one of the most popular Kenyan protective styling choices that you will rarely miss on our streets.

With these braids, you will get creative looks regardless of its colour, length of the braids and styling.

They are also known to be versatile and tend to compliment several face shapes. They can be rocked on both formal and informal occasions.

3. Lace Wigs

This is a special type of hairpiece in which human hair or synthetic hair is tied by hand to a sheer lace base which goes over the scalp. It is mostly worn because of its easy styling and 'slaying' nature.

4. Ghanaian Lines

Ghana braids also known as Banana cornrows, use extensions that touch the scalp. It looks great on women of all ages and the young mostly adorn it with beads or flowers. This hairstyle is great for transition from a day to a night event.

5. Thick Plates Hairdo

This is mostly for women who don’t have time to go to the salon or rather who find the braiding pain unbearable.

6. Bantu Knots

Bantu knots are a gorgeous style all on their own and a natural way to keep your hair moisturised.

They are effortless to style, so there's no need for a stylist.

7. Bob Braids

This is a shoulder length-bob that doesn’t put much stress on your hair. They are fit for swimming as the braids effortlessly fit in the cap.

8. Neat Bandika Lines

Usually, clean lines are plaited with your hair, and then the bandika lines are incorporated on the top such a way that no difference can be noted. Most Kenyan ladies are finding this hairstyle classy and irresistible.
